Belgium

The first race meeting for Revolution has now passed with the #51 Deuce Brand" car of Kieran Dynes and Chris Richardson's "#99 Protex Latches " car racing around the Warnerton track on 22 may and it was with great sadness that the news of our series leader's passing reached us earlier in the previous week, Tony Roots lost his long battle with illness and our thoughts go out to his wife Lynn, family and friends, his presence will be greatly missed and the void left will be hard to fill, RIP Tony The weeks leading upto the race weekend had the team very busy, the Mercedes motorhome, new 2 car trailer and the 2 cars to prep all had to be completed by the Friday night for a 6.20am crossing on the tunnel........was just managed in time, the 2 car trailer being a major success although there was some funny looks taking up a whole carriage on the train !!!! Once at the Belgium track cars were made ready for practice, a very hot day left the #51 with overheating problems, extra air holes were added and all seemed fine with Kieran sticking in some good laps despite the dustiness of the track itself. The #99 car was late out but got a good shake down after its winter rebuild with Chris very happy with the Protex car "waste of time going fast" he said.."too dusty out there" pretty much summed up the track for the saturday, however saturday night changed all that when the mother of all thunder storms in the middle of the night left a very green track and a cooler, windier day for the race day.

Race 1, Kieran started from the front and pulled out a lead, the faster track showed up a problem straight away with the need for a gearing change but it didn't slow the Deuce Brand car that much and Kieran pulled out a lead and held it for half the race until a yellow came out......caused by a spinning car of Chris in his #99, Chris had to start from the rear as it was his first race on the Belgium Oval, he was doing good times but just over-cooked it coming off of turn 2 " just finding the limit" he said afterwards. the re-start left the #51 car in a venerable position and was soon hit and forced wide allowing the pack to drive underneath him....Chris along with them and at the chequered flag Chris was 7th and kieran 9th.

Changes made to the cars including the gearing on Kierans car led into race 2 of the day, both started from the front this time and battled for the opening laps until a slight coming together sent Chris up the track sideways and 2 cars past them both, Kieran was thinking he had a puncture and pulled into the pits all was ok but soon afterwards found himself being black flag due to his radio not working, Chris struggled on with damage to take the flag in 9th. some slight changes were made to the cars again but Kieran felt his gearing was pretty good and Chris was happy to get on with the last race with the repairs finalised to his car. Prior to the last race of the day a very emotional tribute was paid by the drivers to the late Tony Roots, Tony's #77 car was driven around by Gary Ellis followed closely by jean Vassur both close friends and team members of Roots V8 Racing, all the other cars followed behind and parked along the pit straight in "Le-Mans" style and after a minutes silence the #77 car was covered with a car cover and ALL the drivers pushed it around and into the Roots Racing garage......There was not a dry eye in the house. Getting the last race underway was hard, Jean was noticeably very shaken but as he said "Tony would want us to race" and so it was, once again both the #51 & #99 started from the front and looked good but a number of yellows and getting placed on the outside of the restarts did not play into the hands of Kieran and Chris however their pace was the best of the day and easily had the pace of the cars in front leaving a 8th and 9th place respectively for the boys and a good day in general for team and re-built cars. Venray Next, Hopefully both cars will be there, #51 driver to be announced soon.
